..that said,
when buying tooling, i often, indeed, almost always, would rather buy some battle scarred device from years back that was built
properly to begin with, can be serviced, and will last longer than ill ever need, than some shiny import from china that may look
nice, but often wont work properly out of the box.
to illustrate, my lathe is a properly built 1950s british made device. it cost me about £180 second hand, and probably another 50
or 60 on top of that to get it how i wanted it. Or i could have spent 240 on a shiny lathe from china...
i often figure buying somthing that has seen service, and survived, to be a better bet than buying somthing of similar value new?
