This is not uncommon.
Bob Williams - arguably one of the greatest analog circuit designers - 
said that although he was employed by Linear Technology as "Chief
Scientist" he didn't do any design at work, he did it in the shower.
(At work, he spent his time helping customers and fielding calls from 
idiots like me.)
