There's no reason at all that that a connection cable should suddenly
change in diameter/material when it passes the magical barrier called
a "chassis".
You can buy cut lengths from Maplin everywhere in London, I don't know
if they do that by mail, probably yes. But their selection of cables
isn't that great. For audio cables maybe try digital village or
something like that.
