Thanks to all who responded.  As Mark said it is General Semiconductor.  
Good link Paul, it is there - upper right on first page.  When printed 
on top a SMD it's hard to tell it is an intersecting G and S.

P.S. I should have known this, as I used to work for a General 
Instrument division and once had shares in General Semi, before they got 
sucked into the Vishay borg.
