6061-T6 for flat panels. I dont like using 5000 series metal for them as it
is soft and can bend if you use it thin ( .050/0.063 ) and hang a heavy
cable off a 1/4" jack.
I use 5052 for behind the scenes work such as panel brackets and the like
because its easier to cut and form.
If you go up to .125 or so, bending should be less of an issue.
