What about setting the "Precedence: list" header?

Precedence: commonly with values "bulk", "junk", or "list"; used to
indicate that automated "vacation" or "out of office" responses should
not be returned for this mail, eg. to prevent vacation notices from
being sent to all other subscribers of a mailinglist.

Also, another thought:
I think setting the reply-to header to the mailing list's address
could spare the original user - then you could drop all email coming
from postmaster@* on the mailing list software

In that case the email would never make it to a living user.
