Haha! That's one of the projects I've got on my bench as we speak!
A lot of the stuff I play with needs various parameters supplying to
it via a serial link - oscillators need 'frequency', 'fine tune',
'pulse width', 'grain length', 'pitch wobble', etc etc. I thought it
might be useful to build an all-purpose interface for testing. This
would be in the style of the Oberheim Xpander, e.g. LCD display and
encoders. I've got two 2x40 displays (the Samsung UC-40207's I was
asking about) and eight pushbutton encoders to mount underneath them.
This should enable me to test out new ideas much more easily than at
present, when I often finish up choosing a small subset of the
available parameters to make variable because I only have 6 ADC
channels free on my favourite chip. Building a test interface for a
new idea becomes a question of entering new parameter names and
ranges in software, which has to be easier. We'll see!
