That's probably true for their current machines, but, as I wrote,
this was many years ago. This was a pure mechanical solution: the pin
was mounted on the unit which also held the milling tool. While
milling the unit was pressed down, so with the height of the pin
(adjustable with a screw) the milling depth was adjusted.
That pin could also be disengaged to mill the outer contour of the PCB.

It could do front panel engraving too. Not as nice as Schaeffer though.
