[sdiy] Fume extractors / soldering stations

Do you do so much work that you need a fume extractor ? I've seldom used any, I just use a fan
to direct the fumes away from the bench.
If I had to do something I'd use the dryer hose method and exhaust it outside the building. Another
way to go would be a kitchen range hood (for over a stove). These can be easily vented and usually
have lighting installed to boot. They ~are~ noisy so that would be another problem. The one I have
in my kitchen is a ventless model with activated charcoal filters and a continuous speed control...
Any unit that attaches to the iron itself will have a hose so small it can't work well...

Def. Stay away from the Aoyue 2702A+ it is almost completely useless. I built a fume extractor using flexible duct work and exhaust window (the stuff you connect to your dryer exhaust) and an inline duct fan. Bought it all at lowes for less then $200.

However i can't seem to find any in the <$500 price range except the Aoyue 2702A+ which would be awesome except it seems isn't very good... any hints?
