A few years ago I did a simple wavetable oscillator using a low-end PSoC:

It was a fun little project, but I found that these processors are just barely fast enough for doing audio-rate processing. Lots of interesting features though and it appears that Cypress is extending the idea with some more advanced CPU cores, so it may be worth revisiting.
