[sdiy] Ableton Novation Launchpad

Just curious,

Does anyone have any experience using the Ableton Novation Launchpad as a controller without Ableton Live in an analog modular configuration (or even with Live)?

I know you need a computer to serve as a data hub between the Launchpad and a MIDI port (which eventually drives a MIDI-CV or some other output device).  I'm wondering if using the Launchpad without Live might open up some possibilities not covered with the Live/Launchpad pairing.
