thanks for the reply, ingo

on both channels i got erratic deflections on the screen, even when input
set to GND. no matter what probe i use.
every now and then i can see the actual signal i measure - just for a
second.

these are the symptoms, however i don't know whats wrong. maybe a grounding
issue? maybe i should open up the case at least, to take a look. DIY, right?
