[sdiy] ELEKTOR PCB PROTOTYPING MACHINE

About 12-14 years ago I had a contractor doing some hardware for us that had
one of these. At least from a cost stand point he was not to happy with it.
Only advantage was the turn around time.
The problem was the milling bits used dulled really fast cutting the
fiberglass pcb material. They were pretty expensive so the cost added up.
Also the boards did not have plated through holes so he had to be creative
getting two layer boards designed so he could solder both sides together. I
also don't know how fine these routers can go so doing SMT work might be an
issue.
I think I would still go with photo etching. There are photographic quality
films out there (http://diamond-jet.com/clearfilm.aspx I've used the Premium
film for photo work) you can run through ink jets that work well. This
eliminates the need for doing any real photographic work (I don't consider
exposing a board and developing photographic work).
Anyways good luck and let us know if you give it a try.
