That was exactly my idea.

With some types of PVC tubing you can also bake it onto metal, making
it assume the shape and stay there.

If you just use a hole and a small razor, the cut won't be even - the
elasticity of the tubing may make the cut "drift" to the sides.
However if you use something like say a plastic knife after the razor,
with the plastic knife going into the cut in the tubing and making
sure the tubing doesn't twist, then you will have much better cuts.

Alternative: don't use plastic, use metal. Also good. You can get the
right kind of metal bits in metal shops. Metal tubing will not hurt
the cables any more than plastic tubing would, and it will also be
stronger and will stay put.
