[sdiy] Surplus Vactrols

Hi Tim

I have tried the vactrols from Goldmine (they are not genuine Vactrols(TM),
but same principle). I bought several packs of photo cell assortments, each
with about 20 of the "vactrols" in.

They work. The amount of faulty components in the assortments were
acceptable (around 5% to 10% for the vatrols). However, the vactrols I got
were highly varied in resistance, from the LDR's. From a few K with the LED
off, and up to several M on others. So do not expect to have high precision
components. But for having a lot of cheap vactrols with their characteristic
slow reaction, they are just fine.

I would buy them again any day. Even though it cost quite a lot to get it
all the way to Denmark though a friend in the US. Goldmine do not send to
Europe directly as vactrols are controlled substances (RoHS).

Cheers

\John
