Hi list, I thought that many might like to know that Google's Chrome
browser offers to translate web pages that are not in a language other
than your systems language setting. This is far easier than trying to
use BableFish and the web page retains the original layout. This is a
pretty handy feature as are many others.
While we are on this subject, it's important to note that the beliefs of
the many individuals buying & selling audiophile snake oil that impact
their perception of the sound regardless of the physical laws or
properties. So spending mounds of cash does improve their experience.
Perhaps this is due in part by removing or suppressing audio filters
placed by the conscious mind, but who knows for sure.
Now some of you may not fully grasp the notion of the last part, but
over time our conscious mind learns to filter out what is considered
irrelevant or unnecessary input. It's like where they say that when
somebody loses their eyesight their hearing becomes more acute or
sensitive, but that is false.
You see, the conscious mind only has a limited amount of processing
power. So when a portion of the input is no longer there, the brain has
more cycles available to process other things and the result is that the
individual now becomes aware of things that were always there.
I learned this first hand when I emerged from a coma back in '81. I also
learned that we have the ability to change or remove our filters as well
as increase the number of cycles that are available to the conscious
mind. I should also note that it is possible to go the other way and
reduce the number of available cycles. The mindless "entertainment" on
television is a great contributor to the latter as are processed foods,
but that's another story.
Of course there is also the factor of how one was trained early in life
impacts there experience. Like how the Asians can hear many syllables
due to slight variations in pitch where most of the western world only
hears one. Or how the Japanese have the same word for blue & green and
thus see the blue sky or a green lawn merely as shades of the same color.
Perhaps all of your beliefs and knowledge limit your experience. What if
Newtonian physics was wrong and there was something that we've been
overlooking like in toroidal physics? So is all of this high-end
audiophile stuff merely just snake oil?
I hope that you find this information helpful.
Peace!
