That's interesting. How did you implement the arithmetic operations? 
Fixed or floating point? And now for the FPGA ignorant question: What 
kind of implementation for bounded precision real arithmetic is popular 
(i.e. efficient in terms of resource consumption vs. performance) with 
FPGAs?

I've long wanted to get into FPGAs for synthesis and other stuff, but 
have been put off by the investment in hardware and time as well as by a 
disastrous second hand experience with VHDL on Virtex FPGAs.
