The PDX-D3 is ideal as it's a DJ direct drive turntable with 33, 45 & 78,
reverse button, adjustable pitch range +-3%, 6%, 12%, +-50% pitch joystick, bend
button, and motor cutoff. Lots of options for play and a digital readout if I
want to try to remember pitch adjustments.

I'd better start drinking coffee now...

You could make something work... the turntable would run at 33RPM
so the lowest frequency would be .55Hz  (or 33BPM). Any integral
multiple of this could be done with the right amount of holes.

The photodetectors could be phototransistors, which could trigger
envelope generators... or photoconductive cells which could
provide CVs for VCO, VCF etc.

In essence you could get the same effects with a sequencer, but it
would no way look as cool.

If you need to change the tempo, you need a wide range speed control
on the turntable.

Yhe neat thing about the drum buddy is the way the cans sit on the
turntable, you could make any number of different masks...

(and you need to drink a buttload of coffee, which would just increase
your ability to make more wierdness...
