YES!
I do not like using the power supply rails for references ESPECIALLY
on any circuit to be used as a module. It might be OK if you have total
control of a system (a closed-box synth), but it is a fatal flaw imho
for DIY circuits that others will use.
I like to use precision references as needed, and use a 5.1V zener shunt
regulator (which has nearly a zero tempco...) for front panel pots etc.
This way the circuits remain unaffected by other modules...
Of course this eliminates ~bugs~ as "features"... such as "I get a cool
sound when I turm ny filter all the way up and it drives all my VCOs
nuts..."
