A few years ago I had a student play around with trying to make a filter of some sort using varactors - it didn't work very well. My didn't work very well, I should clarify that I mean didn't work at all. The trouble was that it's hard to get decent usable variation out of the varactor in the audio range. They are really beasts best suited for radio frequencies.
