Arrgghhh indeed.
But, one thing that doesn't seem to be used is
additive synthesis using independent oscillators for each overtone..
Now that really WOULD give something worth listening to - 
heavy in hardware - but that is what VHDL is for.

It will be interesting arguing about the random frequency offsets 
for each overtone.
