[sdiy] Asymetric power suupplies

As I am studying the old Steiner (and some of the Moog) schematics, I am
curious as to why they use asymmetric power supplies. Steiner used +12/-10,
and Moog used +12/-6. Is there a reason for this?

Does this cause any problems interfacing modules with current trends for +/-
12 and +/- 15 volt supplies other than limiting the peak to peak audio
inputs/outputs?

I don't mind having an asymmetric supply in the Steiner project I'm
pursuing, and I'm convinced I can just use them as is with a +/- 12 volt
supply.

I'm just curious as to why they would choose this type of supply.

David
