Thanks, everyone who answered.  The problem turned out to be kinda dumb.  I 
derived a reference voltage from a voltage divider and used it on both 
oscillators -- without bypassing it!  Bypassing got rid of the syncing up 
to 10 kHz.  I am trying to use the simplest possible design with opamp 
comparators having no hysteresis, etc.

I wouldn't use this method for serious oscillators.  They are for my new 
toy billiard-ball pseudochaos simulation that I mentioned the other day.
