Polyphonic AT is easy -- now that Ensoniq's patents should be expired 
even commercially.

With is IMO because they multiplexed too much. The keyboard scanner only 
had 4 distinct counters, so to be detected chances needed to be drastic 
-- plus it required some settling time, so it has a laggy behavior.

Using a full set of 61 counters (which would be a piece of cake with 
today's FPGAs), the "make each key a tuneable oscillator by etching the 
coil on the PCB and attaching the core to the key" technology should 
perform much more responsive.
