Can you tell the difference on analog scope either?
My scope screen has height of about 70 mm (2.75 inches). 0.5% of that is 
0.35 mm (0.014"). Are you saying you can see that low signal on your 
scope screen? :)

On digital you could at least switch to averaged FFT mode which can dig 
out periodic signals buried in the noise floor.
