Just about any op amp will work, you just do not have a lot of room between
the rails.

i am working on something that would be great if I could do it all single
supply.

the main blocks i need to run off of +9v and grnd are

AN INPUT GAIN STAGE

AN OUTPUT GAIN STAGE

and A Full WAVE rectifier


now, the input and output signal levels are going to be regular line. so i
dont need +/- 5v swing

Would the Lm358 work for these things?

i have almost NEVER worked with single supply amps unless a pcb asked for
them. in my own stuff, i usually
always just work around +/- 15. however in this case, it is not an option.
