The stupid, stupid thing here is that CdS is a tightly bonded chemical 
compound.  By this reasoning of the EU, GaAs would be poisonous, not to 
mention NaCl (table salt). Or water!!

When it came time to produce an MSDS for GaAs there was no data on 
toxicity, so the bureaucrats combined the data sheets for the two 
elements.  For years we had to ship every tiny chip of GaAs in a huge 
toxic-label box.  Eventually DoT relented with a statement that the As was 
tied up in the crystal and so didn't have to be shipped as hazardous.

But the money that was wasted on this stupidity!

And speaking of Cd, what about all the Cd plated hardware (machine screws, 
nuts, washers) that's around?  An NiCd batteries? Hope they're banned too?
