Jason, I think youll be fine with the WTCPT since it is temperature
controlled (and assuming you are using the standard 700 deg F tip).
Non-TC cheapo irons tend to run hotter.
Don't know what the DX7 battery situation looks like, but you might also
be able to "snip" out the old battery and solder new on the old lead
stubs without having to solder the PCB directly.
