It's warmth that messes boards up. Don't worry if you don't think you
don't have to. Specifically if you have a temp regulated iron, that
should be fine. Or if it's an iron that you can turn off and on
yourself and you trust your judgment on where the sweet spot lies with
temperature.
I seem to remember the DX boards had some form of coating that could
char up fairly quickly. But I might be wrong. Check for yourself -
look at them under the light - if the etched parts *and* the traces
are shiny with a unique sheen, then it's probably coated.
In case of doubt, buy a tiny 12V iron.
