I think this good advise. I would also recommend maybe looking into some of the older 80's mixers by brands like TAC. You can get big bang for your buck with many of these older mixer. I purchased a 10 channel, 4 buss TAC Bullet Custom a few years back for $200 without a power supply. I managed to get a power suply for another $100 and then spent about $100 more recapping all of it. I had owned a number of budget mixers before this and this blows them all away! The eqs are great, 6 aux sends, direct outs on each channel, clip lights on all channels, metter bridge, and it looks bad ass! Did I mention its modular?

Howdy,
I don't know if this will help or not, but if you can get the first volume of "Home Recording for Musicians" by Craig Anderton,(Amsco publications, 1978, ISBN #0.8256.0501.5), it will guide you through a complete mixer build, minus the low impedance inputs,(mic preamps). You can buy them probably better and more economically than building them. The rest of the mixer construction project is all there. You can build whatever configuration of mixer you desire. Granted, the book is over 20 years old, but with the substitution of more up-to-date, quieter ICs, you can make a respectable and useful mixer with this book. The only limitation is how big you want it, and how many features you want. I don't know the full length of this conversation, it might be worth checking out if you are absolutely determined to build your own mixer. My $0.02 worth, if it helps. I do know it will cost you more than buying an already built mixer, what with Asian manufacturing
prices and what not. YuouWILL have the exact mixer you want though.
