Yes, Don's method of implementing the scanner function is so elegant that I based my PCB project on his method instead of mine (with 
Don's permission, of course). What's on my board isn't Don's circuit exactly, but the principle is the same.

I think JH did a souped-up version of it, you'd want to check it out -
he has a version of it that connects with an L-C ladder that does this
awesome Hammond organ effect.
