[sdiy] in need of a good bench supply (+/- 0-18 volts and 5)

Dan, you probably want a Dual Tracking Linear Supply. The linked supply 
does not indicate if it is Linear or Switching. Nice to have the +5V 
btw, you will appreciate having it around.
