Real 16 bit DACs are expensive. Fortunately, you don't really need true 16 
bit accuracy for modulation sources - only high enough resolution and 
reasonable accuracy. Nobody is going to notice if your envelope or LFO is 
off by 0.1%. So, use a cheap 12 bit DAC (MCP6922 for example), follow it 
with an RC filter to remove any stepping and be happy. It should be good 
enough for everything other than main tuning CV.
