Hi,
well I think it all depends on what you are tuning and how you go about it.
I have used both a frequency counter, chromatic tuner and a strobotuner
and I think that they do seem to all complement each other.
the Chromatic tuner is nice if you want something portable and only need
to have a certain accuracy. ( as many of them may be slightly 0ff say A
= 440 HZ ) which doesn't matter in many applications.
a frequency counter in more generally useful as it is likely to be more
accurate at higher frequencies. at lower frequencies its ok if it has a
phase locked loop built in to multiply the lower frequencies so that
you don't need a long gate time and the readings update quickly.
the Strobotuner seems to be able to cope with irregular waveforms,
jitter and other strange effects that can cause strange readings on the
frequency counter and chromatic tuner. I think there are electronic
strobotuners made and it seems there are some plug ins as well.
