Um no, the output acts the same either way, using the inverting amp is just
their style. It fits in better with the surrounding text and keep the reader
thinking about the feed back loop gain etc.

Yes, great book; I use it all the time.

Could this be because the inverting opamp passes on dc current, while the
follower provides no outlet for dc current?  Gurus, where art thou?
