OT Gateway to a life of SDIY, was Re: [sdiy] The price of copper (you couldnt make this up!)

My dad was an electrical engineer and pretty much everything in our house
was a "Heathkit". In high school, I heard "Switched on Bach" and wanted to
build a Moog. Turns out my neighbor was Nyle Steiner who gave me schematics
to all his Synthasystem modules (long since thrown out :( ) and he hired me
for a summer to stuff PCB's for him. But life happened, and the bug lay
dormant for 35 years til last summer when a mid-life crisis dictated either
a motorcycle or a modular. I think now my wife would have preferred the
motorcycle...

~~ How I ended up in this condition?
~~
~~ It is the usual story: Some friends at at party did it, and soon I took
up
~~ the hard stuff:
~~
~~ In my case, I started out with circuit bending two years ago, which was
~~ great fun. And some of my toy-mangling compatriots were into SDIY too. So
~~ I
~~ goot hooked on that as well. My aim and excuse for taking up the habit
was
~~ to combine the two fields into having voltage controlled bent circuits.
~~
~~ Well, besides the above, I also dabbled with analogue synths in my youth
~~ (in
~~ the early 80's), but never got around to actually owning one. Five years
~~ ago, when turning fourty, I decided I was pretty much old enough to
decide
~~ for myself, and bought my first synth. So here goes midlife crisis ;-)
~~
~~ Cheers
