I once requested some r2r samples from Bourns. They were 10pin SIPs.
A sales representative emailed me asking what kinds of volume
I was predicting for the finished product. I told the truth --
that I was a hobbyist and would only use a few in total. The
representative said that they would do what they could, but it
didn't look hopeful.

I ended up receiving one sample, which turned out to be
one box containing one hundred parts.

So you could always just ask them for some.
