Kyle, no questions are stupid, especially elementary ones.

Voltage is potential.  So is the height of water in a reservoir.  If you put
2, 3, or 100 pipes at the bottom of the reservoir, that does not directly
change the height of the reservoir (voltage).  It does, however, change the
rate at which the reservoir is drained (current).  Hence, if the pipes are
small enough (high load or input impedance) and the reservoir is large
enough (low output impedance) then the reservoir height will be easily
maintained.

The only place where this analogy breaks down is that a reservoir isn't
necessarily replenished as it's being depleted, while electrons must be.
