A jigsaw or bandsaw works pretty well, and it's what I do when I want an irregular shape, but there's an even better way for straight cuts: score both sides with a scoring blade and snap.
Lining up the cuts on two sides can be tricky, but if you mark it accurately and score along a ruler you can get very straight lines with much less dust.
