As far as I can see:
- it uses an ADC0804, not an '0808 (refer to the respective datasheets)
- it shorts the ADC data _outputs_ to ground, not the inputs to the DAC

Different chip, different inputs.

What does your design call for?  Or are you planning on copying the above circuit?  If so:  you need an ADC0804, and I would change round the switches so you don't short the ADC data outputs to ground.
