I believe it was the SH-2000 that sparked the transistor ladder patent 
issue. Early editions of the SH-2000 have the Moog ladder filter, while 
later ones had a five stage diode ladder [made with BE junctions of 
transistors].

Since the VCF is contained on a separate circuit board it was an easy 
enough change to implement.
