[sdiy] modern AD/DA chips?

Hi Dan,
You don't say exactly *how* you're going to be using these, but I'm
guessing that you're not wanting to connect them to a microprocessor.
For that, there are lots of good audio codecs that do both A/D and D/
A on one chip. These usually talk to a processor via a serial link of
some kind. I2S is a common one, SPI is another.
Instead of going down this road, I imagine you have different things
in mind (correct me if I'm wrong). Matthew Smith has posted a couple
of links to sites with parametric searches. I'd start by only
selecting devices that are available in a DIP package (that'll reduce
the count by thousands). You'll also probably want only devices that
use parallel data (e.g. no serial interface to worry about). This
will also eliminate many of the available chips.
I reckon finding the right DAC is a nightmare. Places like Farnell/
Newark and RS stock many thousands of different devices and finding
the one you want is a classic case of finding a needle in a haystack.
But it can be done.
Good luck!
Tom
