>From what I recall of the Synergy's schematic, the logic seemed to act as a sort of "coprocessor" with the CPU controlling the data paths and whatnot.  The EGS and OPS chips in the DX7 are acting more or less autonomously.  

Of course this makes sense- the Synergy implements a third as many oscillators but (as far as I know) is far more versatile in the way that they're combined.
