[sdiy] Lacquer finish/second thoughts

I did a little poking around and the magic compound for "water-white" 
lacquer is CAB acrylic (cellulose acetate butyrate). Depending on the 
mix, it ranges from "less likely to yellow" to "stays clear".

You seem to be after a protective clear coat. You might want to pop by 
an autoparts store and pick up some auto paint clear coat to try. It's 
durable and we know it doesn't yellow. Here's what I mean:
