I agree with Florian. My SH101 has had one dead slider in its life,
but my Pro-One has had three dead pots. It just depends how much
waggling they get. If you're the type of person who likes to provide
dynamic filter effects by waggling the cutoff slider up and down
whilst you play, then obviously the slider is going to wear out
faster. But the same is true for rotary pots.
I suspect that for SDIY it's the slot cutting that puts most people
off. Personally, I think they're a good option anywhere where the
visual indication they provide makes sense - and that probably covers
most things.
