[sdiy] Potentiometer Source

I do have the mouser catalog. It's just that a few years ago when I built a huge synth addition, I was getting .30 cent jacks, and .50 cent pots!! Now when I need over 100 more of each, it hurts to jump to about 4x the cost.

I know in the long run, the slightly higher quality parts will probably pay off. But.. yeah.. there's nothing more to say.. it hurts to make that jump to 4x the cost in just a few years.

Hello,
I've got another parts sourcing question. So, just like the surplus jacks I asked about the other day, I used to be able to find little alpha potentiometers for about $.50 each at a couple of different surplus stores. Both seem to be out. It's been a couple of years, so I guess prices have risen a little, but just like the jacks, the best price I can find now is several times what I was paying.
So, does anyone know where to get a bunch of inexpensive pots? I need about 100 100k, and 50 50k.

It looks like this hobby is a lot more expensive than it used to be a couple of years ago! ? ! I should have finished these modules back then!

Thanks!
Dude, get yourself a Mouser catalog, it's a great source ;-)

Seriously, I really like the 12mm Alphas in stock at Mouser. They're available in PC mount (right angle) or solder lug, audio or linear tapers up to 1M, they have a nice feel to them, and they're $1.60ea if you buy ten or more. These are all D-shaft, but there are tons of knobs available to fit them. The 12mm size makes them easier to fit in a layout (especially when a pot needs to fit near the edge of a module), and I think they're a great bargain. Check page 675 in the latest catalog. The part number for the 100k linear with solder lugs is 313-1210F-100K, so that should get you started for an online search.

Tim (always buys ten or more) Servo
