[sdiy] Right angle mounts for 90 deg mounting?

Hey Raph,

I use something called a "stooge bracket" which is an idea I ripped off from
Thomas White's website (www.naturalrhythmmusic.com) and MOTM
(www.synthtech.com). Basically, I take pieces of 1/32" steel (stainless is
nice), cut it as long as the PCB, and about 2" wider. Then I punch two or
three holes about 3/8" diameter in it about 3/4" from one edge to correspond
to pots on the panel, and four 1/8" holes for mounting the PCB. Finally, I
bend the sheet at a right angle about 3/4" below where the bottom edge of
the PCB will be. What I end up with is the PCB sitting perpendicular to the
front panel, screwed firmly to the stooge bracket in four places (with
plastic spacers, of course) and facing parts-side up, with the bracket held
firmly in place by two or three pots (depending on how long the PCB is).
There is typically about 1/4" clearance between the PCB and the back of the
pots. The only caveat is not to extend the PCB down as far as the jacks (I
use an approximate version of the MOTM format, so all jacks are at the
bottom of the panel, and this is typically not a problem).

Of course, the MOTM ones are fancier (I think they are actually affixed to
the front panel with some type of screw or rivet), but mine are totally DIY
and work just fine. I have access to a hand punch and a bending brake in my
department machine shop, which makes it that much more convenient, although
more or less the same effect can be had with a drill press and a vice.
