[sdiy] magsafe patch cables?

There is a magsafe version of the 1/4" jack available, but (like  
someone already guessed) it isn't cheap:

For a while, Maplin electronics in the UK stocked magnetic connectors  
from a company called Magtrix, but both they and their connectors  
seem to have disappeared. All I could find of them (apart from  
obsolete references on business directory sites) is:

This looks to be a 2003 patent application, withdrawn in 2006. I  
expect Apple's lawyers jumped on them.
