Speaking on behalf of the noobs, could someone please explain the difference
between a "real ring mod" and, say, a four-quadrant multiplier? I was under
the impression that they were basically the same thing (although some of the
"ring mod" circuits I've seen on the web made pretty crappy four-quadrant
multipliers!). I was also under the impression that the difference between
four- and two-quadrant multiplication was basically the difference between a
ring mod and simple AM.

This is especially pertinent to me at the moment, as I've developed a simple
circuit for true two- and four-quadrant multiplication based on an LM13700,
a TL074, and two pots, and I'm calling it a ring mod (perhaps erroneously?)
