let's complicate things.

i must respectfully disagree the anti-rotation tab is necessary.

internal tooth lockwashers are at least as good if not a better way  
to secure the potentiometer to the front panel. all of my 1/4" jacks  
and potentiometers have hardware in this order: component,  
lockwasher, panel, panel washer, nut.

now on a high density layout, where you've got a bunch of PC mount  
potentiometers? yeah i think using the anti-rotation tab is a good  
idea there.
